So here you are at the beginning of another year. Are you excited for what the next 12 months will bring or are you dreading getting back into the old routine? Did you make your usual ‘resolutions’, go the gym more often, give up smoking, eat healthily, lose weight, earn more money?


And the big question has to be – how confident are you that those resolutions will last beyond the middle of this month?


If you’re not naturally driven, it can be a very difficult time of year for you and I get that.

The festivities and the fun (hopefully there was fun) are over and now back to reality can be a real pain.


You’ve probably eaten lots of rich foods and maybe had a little too much alcohol and although you’re body feels sluggish and uncomfortable it can often be difficult to stop eating those foods especially if you live in a cold climate.


Back to work on Monday, dark mornings, grey skies, really give you no incentive to diet or look after yourself other than comfort foods and hibernating.


So what do you do to ensure your year starts off right without becoming a real misery for 31 days?


The trick is to have something to look forward to and the way to do that is to plan a goal (or two).


Short term goals are a great way to incentivize yourself. It’s like when you’re feeding a toddler. It’s always “just one more spoonful, just one more”.


How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!


So telling yourself that by June you will have a lost 15 lbs is too big a step. A short term weight loss goal could be I will have shed 2lbs in 10 days.


It’s all about mindset. How you really want to feel.


Weight loss is easy when you change your mindset.

Yes sure it’s about what you’re eating but it’s also about what you’re thinking and I believe that has to be the first step.


I used these very steps more than 20 years ago (and I know hundreds of people all over the world) who have used the same simple steps to change their lives.


It’s all about the words you use. Especially the words you use to yourself.

If you spoke to a friend the way you speak to yourself you probably wouldn’t have that friend for very long. You’re far too hard on yourself. Driving yourself, criticising yourself.

Next time you do something ‘silly’ or in your mind ‘make a mistake’ just catch the words you say. “oh you’re so stupid” How could you? Blah blah blah.


The sub conscious has no sense of humour. What you tell it it believes – and acts upon.

If you tell yourself you’re stupid or dumb or daft or fat or ugly or you can never be successful or earn enough money or you’ll always be poor or other people are better than you, then I am sorry to say that’s how your year (and your life) is going to continue.


If however you tell yourself you’re doing your best, that every day is a blessing, that your life is wonderful, that you are healthy and beautiful and you can be as successful as you desire and you deserve the very best then that is exactly what your life will become.


And it is so simple

So easy

But you’ve got to be willing to do it

You can

Or not

It’s entirely up to you.


Do you want 2016 to be a great year, your best year ever full of good health, love, fun, great relationships, more money than you’ve ever earned or do you want to be sitting here this time next year in exactly the same position, poor, fat, – like I say it’s entirely up to you.


First step

Every morning when you get up, in fact when you first wake up say “today is a wonderful day I Choose to Make it So.”

Walk into the bathroom and say “today I love and accept myself exactly as I am”

Look at yourself in the mirror, even if your eyes are half closed and say “hi good morning gorgeous how ya doing?


I tell you what. Just saying that will make you smile.

It’ll change your attitude.


Then as you go about your day keep saying, out loud if you can but to yourself if you can’t “I love and accept myself exactly as I am”.

Say it like a mantra over and over and over and over again, hundreds and hundreds of times during the day.

If you worry about something you go over and over it

This is the same.

But instead of negative thoughts these are positive ones which will change your outcomes

Because when you tell yourself over and over again that you love yourself, good stuff will just start happening

It’s like magic.

You will notice little, subtle changes

Like you’ll stop wanting to eat rubbish

You’ll be more motivated to go to the gym

You’ll be far less interested in watching tv because your energy levels will increase

You will feel better about yourself

And the better you feel the more good will appear

And the more good that appears the better you’ll feel


Cool huh?


You’ll be fired up to and inspired to make those business calls and go to networking events to meet more people to improve your business.

You’ll be nicer to be with people will want to spend time with you so your relationships will improve.

You’ll have more confidence, you’ll have more energy



And all this from saying two little sentences

Wake up and say “today is a wonderful day I choose to make it so”


I love and accept myself exactly as I am


And before you drift off to sleep say “thank you for the wonderful day I had” (even if it wasn’t that wonderful) “tomorrow will be even better”

You can go over difficult situations and how well you dealt with them

That’s like giving yourself a little pat on the back

It also ensures a good night’s sleep


And you will sleep well and wake refreshed

And remember before you do anything or start thinking about the day ahead

Say “today is a wonderful day”


What you’re doing is putting out to the Universe how you want your life to be

How you want each day to be


You can make plans for 6 months, a year, even 5 years ahead but you can only take charge of this present moment – blink and it’s gone.


How often have you said at this time of year ‘how did last year go so quickly?”


Life is too short to waste any single moment.


Take control of your days take control of your thoughts.


You are in charge

Not your mind


Saying “I love and accept myself” every single day will bring about the most amazing changes.

Forget diets, just ‘be’

You are a magnificent, awesome human being (you are not a human ‘do-ing’!)

You are capable of wonderful things

You deserve it

You are worthy


That’s the best diet in the world.

Change the words you use to yourself and you will be amazed at the life you will create for yourself.
